Latham & Watkins steered Boston Scientific Corp. in its purchase of medical device company Silk Road Medical Inc. for $1.16 billion. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati guided Silk Road in the transaction.

The deal adds to law firms’ increase in activity in Boston, where several legal operations have expanded with an eye on health care and clean energy opportunities.

Latham’s Boston office corporate department chair, Julie Scallen, led the firm’s work on the deal along with New York partner Ian Nussbaum. Scallen has guided Boston Scientific on several past deals, including its acquisitions of Apama Medical Inc., a developer of radio-frequency balloon catheters, and Symetis SA, a structural heart company.

Wilson Sonsini’s team incuded the leader of the firm’s mergers and acquisitions group Rob Ishii and partner Remi Korenblit.

A Fried Frank team, including partners Philip Richter and Roy Tannenbaum, advised BofA Securities, the financial adviser to Silk Road.
