Latham Hires Copyright Litigator from Mayer Brown In New York

Sept. 29, 2020, 8:30 PM UTC

Latham & Watkins has hired former Mayer Brown copyright litigator Allison Stillman as a partner in New York.

Stillman represents technology companies in high-stakes matters involving the shifting legal terrain of digital media. She has represented Google and YouTube in Digital Millennium Copyright Act litigation, Spotify in licensing litigation, and the Digital Media Association in connection with implementing the recently enacted Music Modernization Act.

“It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome Alli to the litigation and trial team in New York,” New York Office managing partner Michèle Penzer said in a statement. “Her combination of litigation skills, regulatory knowledge, and technical insight will undoubtedly benefit clients, particularly leading innovators in the digital media space.”

In addition to the trial team, Stillman joins Latham’s connectivity, privacy and information practice.

Fellow copyright litigator Andy Gass, a partner in the firm’s Bay Area office, called Stillman “a force to be reckoned with in the world of digital media law.”

“I have had the privilege of working across from and beside her so I know that she brings a mastery of complex technical issues, clear-headed judgment, and the ability to anticipate evolving legal questions,” Gass said.

Latham has hired several other prominent copyright litigators in recent years, including Sy Damle, former general counsel and associate register of Copyrights at the U.S. Copyright Office, and Joe Wetzel, a music licensing and copyright trial lawyer.

“I am honored to be joining a dynamic and expanding team that is taking on the most influential copyright matters arising across the digital media landscape,” said Stillman said in a statement. “Through my work with several Latham lawyers, including Andy, Sy, and Joe, I know that the team collaborates seamlessly to deliver phenomenal results for clients.”
