Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel has added Colin Bumby, formerly of McGuireWoods, as a partner in New York in its mergers and acquisitions and private equity practices.

Bumby was counsel and an associate at Latham & Watkins for 11 years prior to moving to McGuireWoods as a partner last March.

He represents private equity funds and their portfolio companies and public and private companies in matters including M&A, dispositions, complex investments, and joint ventures.

He has represented principal parties in M&A transactions totaling more than $45 billion in the aggregate.

On joining Kramer Levin, Bumby said, in a statement, “I look forward to contributing to its entrepreneurial culture and the continued growth of its highly respected mergers and acquisitions and private equity practices.”

“Colin is an accomplished deal lawyer whose extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, including private equity transactions, adds depth to our bench in one of the fastest-growing areas of our practice,” said Paul H. Schoeman, Kramer Levin co-managing partner, in a statement.

Announcing Bumby’s hire was among the first actions taken by Schoeman and co-managing partner Howard Spilko, who began their terms at the helm of the firm Jan. 1.

Paul Pearlman, who had led the firm as its managing partner since August 2000, stepped down at the end of 2019 as part of the firm’s succession strategy.

At the same time, the firm’s executive director Nicholas Tortorella, retired, paving the way for the new set of leaders at Kramer Levin.
