Kirkland & Ellis Tops Dealmaking in Scramble for Work (Correct)

Kirkland & Ellis topped rivals in handling mergers and acquisition deals through the third quarter, as law firms battled for a shrinking amount of business.

Kirkland advised on deals worth $254.6 billion this year through Sept. 30, leading Sullivan & Cromwell’s $250.8 billion. Kirkland’s work in the third quarter included advising BAE Systems Plc on its $5.5 billion purchase of Ball Aerospace.

The firm so far this year has improved its ranking—from No. 5 in all of 2022—even as deals fell to $777 billion in the third quarter from $905 billion in the same period a year ago. “We are ...
