King & Spalding Lands Former Top Justice Department Official

Oct. 26, 2020, 7:22 PM UTC

Former top Trump Justice Department official Ethan Davis is returning to King & Spalding as a partner in San Francisco.

Davis, most recently the acting assistant attorney general for the civil division, will be part of the firm’s special matters and government investigations team.

Davis left King & Spalding for the Justice Department in 2017 before clerking for Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch for the 2017-18 term. He then returned to DOJ where he undertook civil division leadership roles.

“There are not many lawyers with Supreme Court credentials who are equally comfortable in handling investigations, trying cases, and appearing before appellate courts—but Ethan is one of them,” said Wick Sollers, chair of King & Spalding’s government matters group.

Davis began his career at DOJ, litigating in its federal programs branch for four years before joining King & Spalding as an associate in 2013. He made partner three years later.
