Kansas’ Ban on Gender Affirming Care for Minors Halted for Now

A Kansas judge blocked a state law that would prevent transgender children from accessing medical services in a manner that doesn’t align with their sex assigned at birth is blocked while litigation continues.

The plaintiffs showed a likelihood of success in showing that SB 63 violates a fundamental right to parenting in Kansas Bill of Rights, District Judge Carl Folsom III said in a May 15 order granting a motion for a temporary injunction. The plaintiffs showed a reasonable probability of irreparable future harm based on disruptions to medical care, he said.
