K&L Gates Brings on Two Justice Department Lawyers in DC Office

Varu Chilakamarri and Michael Culhane Harper have joined K&L Gates as partners in its Washington, D.C., office, the firm said Tuesday.

Chilakamarri has joined the environment, land, and natural resources practice, and Harper has become a member of the white collar defense and investigations practice, according to K&L Gates.

At the Justice Department, Chilakamarri served as the deputy assistant attorney general for the torts branch of the civil division, as an appellate attorney in the environmental and natural resources division, and as acting deputy in the office of the associate attorney general. She also clerked for Judge R. Guy Cole in the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and Judge Timothy B. Dyk in the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, K&L Gates said.

Harper has practiced as a a trial attorney in the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act unit of the the criminal fraud section at the DOJ.
