Judge Sends 40 Data Broker Privacy Cases Back to NJ State Court

Proposed class actions against 40 data brokers, including LexisNexis Risk Data Management LLC, TransUnion LLC, Thomson Reuters Corp., and Equifax Inc., were sent back to a New Jersey state court on Wednesday.

The swath of suits were filed by New Jersey-based data-deletion firm, Atlas Data Privacy Corp. The disputes wielded the state’s 2021 Daniel’s Law, which prohibits disclosure of residential addresses for cops, judges, prosecutors and their families on state and local government websites, and allows covered residents to request removal of home address or unpublished phone numbers from commercial websites.
