Former U.S. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) is joining Squire Patton Boggs, the firm announced on Tuesday.
Boehner, who is not a lawyer, will work at the firm as a strategic advisor, out of Washington and Cincinnati. He will not become a lobbyist, a specialty that Patton Boggs, before it was acquired by Squire Sanders, was best known for.
Today, the firm remains active in the lobbying and public policy arena, staffing former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.), former Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) and former Sen. John Breaux (D-La.).
According to the firm’s press release, Boehner will be joined by longtime aides John Criscuolo and Amy Lozupone.
In a statement, Boehner said that his new role at the firm will allow him to “engage with leaders in business and government throughout the world and help them work through challenges they face.”
A firm spokesman declined interview requests.
Squire Patton Boggs has more than 1,500 lawyers in 46 offices in 21 countries, according to the release.
