Ira Kustin has rejoined Akin as a partner in its investment management practice in the New York office, the firm said Thursday.
Kustin focuses his practice on the formation and operation of private investment fund vehicles and accounts. He also advises investment fund managers on securities law and Advisers Act compliance issues, complex fund restructurings, and fund-related conflict resolution. He was a part of the Paul Hastings team that recently advised Brookfield Asset Management and Brookfield Oaktree Wealth Solutions on its launch of Brookfield Infrastructure Income strategy.
“In a landscape where outstanding lawyers who can advise alternative investment management funds on formation, operation and regulatory issues remain in strong demand, we are delighted to welcome Ira back to our premier funds team,” said Akin chairperson Kim Koopersmith in a statement.
Kustin is heading back to Akin from Paul Hastings, which he joined in 2018.
He is also just the latest addition to Akin’s investment management practice which earlier this year added Sidley Austin partner James Munsell. The firm also added Lowenstein Sandler’s Max Karpel as well as Patrick Dundas from Schulte Roth & Zabel.
The firm’s collaborative culture, superb intellectual capital and client focus are second to none and I look forward to working with new and old colleagues to advise our clients across the private funds spectrum,” Kustin said in a statement.
