Instacart Grabs Gig Economy Guru Amid In-House Hiring Spree

Instacart Inc., now valued at nearly $14 billion after closing another funding round, is upsizing its in-house legal department.

The grocery delivery service hired at least four in-house lawyers within the past two months as the privately held company doubled the size of its workforce amid soaring demand for contactless shopping due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In May, Instacart’s Washington office welcomed employment counsel Alexander MacDonald, who joined the company after spending nearly the past two years as an associate at global labor and employment legal giant Littler Mendelson. MacDonald didn’t respond to a request for comment.
