Indiana, which bills itself at the “Crossroads of America,” has positioned itself to reap an unexpected payout as the sole focal point of March Madness.

The pandemic-driven decision to host the month-long tournament in a single location—rather than the typical spread across more than a dozen cities—translates into a $100 million economic boost for the state. Any gain would have been precious considering Indiana is projected to have lost over $330 million in state and local tax revenue from hotels during the pandemic.
