Narendra Modi’s business-friendly government has opened the door a crack to foreign law firms looking to operate in India, but few are stepping through.
Only a handful of firms have forged ahead since India’s bar council issued guidance in 2023 allowing foreign lawyers to practice international law in the country. Others are skittish, due to past difficulties and uncertainty over how the new permission will be implemented.
