House Passes Anti-Gender Ideology Bill Tied to K-12 School Funds

The GOP-controlled House passed a bill on Wednesday to block K-12 schools from using federal funds to teach what the Trump administration calls “gender ideology” without parental approval.

Elementary and middle schools would be barred from using funds under the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act to teach concepts defined by an executive order President Donald Trump signed in January 2025. The bill passed in a 217-198 vote with a handful of Democrats and one independent voting with Republicans.
