- Alex Garcia, Andrew Roppel are among recruits
- Holland & Hart saw profits rise 30% last year
Holland & Hart is expanding its trademark practice with the addition of a 10-person team from Perkins Coie, the firm said in a statement.
Partners Alex Garcia and Andrew Roppel are returning to Holland & Hart and will work in the firm’s Boulder office, while the others—including four paralegals—will join in the Denver location.
“Expanding our intellectual property services by attracting high-caliber talent is one of the firm’s strategic priorities,” Holland & Hart chair Chris Balch said in the statement. “We are thrilled to bring on this sophisticated trademark group to grow our client base.”
The move is part of an adjustment midsize firms are making to legal industry market pressures, including the arrival of Big Law competitors like law giant Kirkland & Ellis, which opened a Salt Lake City office. Denver-founded Holland & Hart has offices in eight states and Washington.
Profits rose 30% last year as the regional firm shared in the growth of deals and transactions during the coronavirus pandemic. Holland & Hart, with more than 400 lawyers, has clients including Chevron Corp., Deere & Co., McKinsey & Co., and Novartis AG.
Garcia’s clients include emerging and high-growth companies and Fortune 100 brands. Roppel works with clients in the computer hardware and software areas, as well as food and beverage clients and engineered products clients, for intellectual property portfolio management.
One of the new additions, partner Craig Beaker, counsels start-ups and established companies in the outdoor recreation, entertainment, consumer products and technology industries.
The other lawyers who are joining are Sabrina Danielson and Lisa Koenig, who are of counsel, and Julie Kent, an associate.
