Higher Tariffs on China Urged by Bipartisan Group of Lawmakers

A bipartisan group of US lawmakers recommended raising tariffs on goods from China and further restricting investment into the country, underscoring the growing support from both sides of the aisle for a more confrontational approach to Beijing.

The recommendations, listed in a report Tuesday from a House of Representatives select committee established this year to scrutinize US economic ties to China, also include calls to revisit and possibly revoke China’s permanent normal trade relations status and to invest in policies to shore up critical supply chains.
