Grassley Aims to Keep Blue Slip Custom for District Court Picks

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has signaled that he’ll maintain the process customary for vetting district court nominees that requires support from their home-state senators.

“Senator Grassley takes a traditional approach to the blue slip precedent, mirroring the application the vast majority of Judiciary chairmen have used over the past the century, while encouraging meaningful involvement from the White House and home state senators regarding nominees,” a Grassley spokesperson said in a statement on Friday.

Grassley returns as chair of the Judiciary Committee in 2025 after Republicans recaptured the Senate majority following the Nov. 5 election.
