Giuliani Signs Bankruptcy Court Deal Barring Further Defamation

Rudolph Giuliani and the Georgia election workers he accused of voter fraud reached an agreement barring him from continuing to make false statements about them.

Judge Sean H. Lane said during a status conference Tuesday that he would approve the accord between Giuliani, the election workers and a group of creditors. Lawyers didn’t disclose details of the arrangement during the conference, which occurred in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

The Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea’ Arshaye “Shaye” Moss, said last week that they were working toward a deal with Giuliani after they say he defamed them during an April livestream. They are still, however, pursuing payment on a $148 million defamation verdict they won in December against Giuliani over false comments he made accusing them of rigging the 2020 election.

Freeman and Moss filed a bankruptcy court lawsuit on May 10 accusing him of continuing a “malicious campaign” against them.

Giuliani’s radio show was canceled earlier this month following the pair’s accusations.

Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, Dubose Miller LLC and United to Protect Democracy represent the poll workers. Berger, Fischoff, Shumer, Wexler & Goodman LLP represents Giuliani.

The case is Freeman et al v. Giuliani, Bankr. S.D.N.Y., No. 24-01355, 5/21/24.
