Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP announced on Monday that it has opened an office in Houston.
The firm did not disclose the identities of lawyers joining the firm, but two sources familiar with the deal said that the hire includes several partners from Baker Botts LLP.
The team, which will initially consist of eight partners to be announced in coming weeks, specializes on energy transactions in the oil and gas sector, Gibson Dunn said.
One of the sources provided Big Law Business with the identities of three partners who were joining Gibson Dunn from Baker Botts, although neither Baker Botts nor Gibson Dunn would confirm or deny the accuracy of those names.
In response, a Baker Botts spokesman said that partners switch firms on a regular basis and that the firm was “sorry to see them leave” without naming the lawyers.
The identities shared by our source included prominent partners including a practice leader in Baker Botts’ corporate department.
Said Rob Walters, partner in charge of the firm’s Dallas office:
“Our new Houston office will be initially focused on energy transactions, but we expect the office to work closely with the Dallas office and other lawyers throughout our firm to attract restructuring, litigation, appellate and regulatory opportunities.”
