- Glidden helped ‘rebuild trust’ with public after Cruise setbacks
- He earned about $900,000 in base pay, millions in stock
General Motors Co.'s legal chief, Craig Glidden, earned $11.3 million in 2023, according to a GM proxy statement released by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
Glidden, GM’s executive VP for legal, is also Cruise co-president and chief administrative officer. He is touted in the statement, released Wednesday, as having led Cruise LLC, GM’s autonomous vehicle subsidiary, “through a regulatory, legal, and business transformation on a path to rebuild trust with the public and regulators.”
The Cruise robotaxi experienced setbacks and delays, including a halt in service after an accident last October.
Glidden earned $893,750 in base pay last year, plus $1.6 million in stock options and another $2 million in a “one-time” restricted stock unit grant for his appointment to the Cruise position. He joined GM in March 2015 as executive vice president and general counsel.
Justifications for Glidden’s pay package included providing “strategic counsel” with its negotiations with the United Auto Workers, the statement says, “which enabled GM to successfully agree to a new multi-year collective bargaining agreement.”
Glidden was also praised in the proxy statement for bolstering GM’s efforts to build “a more sustainable and resilient” supply chain that’s focused on North America and free trade partners.
