Florida Justices Extend Suspension of Serial Smoking Suit Filer

A Florida lawyer didn’t comply with his court-ordered law license suspension when he sold his law firm to a friend for $100, the Florida Supreme Court ruled Thursday, extending his punishment.

Norwood Sherman Wilner of Jacksonville, who brought thousands of cases against tobacco companies on behalf of smokers, was required to rehabilitate himself after a court found he filed more than 3,000 claims without investigating the facts of the cases and then misrepresenting the viability of the suits to a judge. His 91 days of mandatory supervised rehabilitation didn’t go as ethics regulators planned.
