Ex-Trump Prosecutor Smith Defends Lawmaker Call Records Subpoena

The former Justice Department special counsel who prosecuted President Donald Trump before his reelection offered another public rebuttal to escalating Republican attacks on his work.

Lawyers for Jack Smith, who brought two cases against Trump, sent a letter to Congress Tuesday defending Smith’s role in collecting and analyzing lawmakers’ call records as part of his investigation into Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss to former president Joe Biden.
