Ex-Morgan Stanley Lawyer Joins Melody Investment Advisors as GC

June 3, 2021, 6:28 PM

Former Morgan Stanley lawyer Nitin Khakee has joined alternative asset management firm Melody Investment Advisors LP as general counsel.

Khakee worked for eight years at Morgan Stanley’s infrastructure division, most recently as its executive director and general counsel, according to a Thursday statement.

Melody Investment Advisors, based in New York, specializes in telecommunications, media, and technology infrastructure, including 5G. Last year, the company acquired two wireless tower companies, Harmoni Towers LLC and CTI Towers Inc.

“I couldn’t be more excited,” Khakee said in the statement. “Melody Investment Advisors has a stellar reputation as a leader in this space and I’m proud to join the firm as general counsel.”

Data consumption is likely to increase ten-fold in the coming years, according to a Bloomberg interview last fall with Melody’s founder and managing partner, Omar Jaffrey. Wireless carriers and technology companies were likely to outsource more infrastructure needs to companies like Melody, he said.

“We are very excited to welcome Nitin,” Jaffrey said Thursday. “His expertise will be extremely additive.”

Before his time with Morgan Stanley, Khakee also worked for Credit Suisse Asset Management as vice president and counsel from 2008 to 2013, according to the statement. He began his career as an associate with law firms Greenberg Traurig and LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene and MacRae.
