Ex-Dentons Compliance Officer Leaves for Sigma7 Startup (1)

Aug. 12, 2022, 4:53 PMUpdated: Aug. 12, 2022, 7:11 PM

Sigma7 has hired former Dentons counsel and global compliance officer Deborah Rimmler as general counsel, as the new risk services startup manages its rapid growth since its May debut.

Rimmler advised Dentons global clients on security and privacy matters, and negotiated collaborative agreements with privacy breach notification and compliance control vendors.

“Beyond her impeccable legal credentials, Deborah brings significant cybersecurity, security, technology and intelligence experience,” Sigma7 CEO
Andrew Hersh said in a statement.

Rimmler will guide the risk services advisory firm and compliance platform on legal and compliance operations and help mold the company’s risk management services for its over 350 global clients.

Rimmler was previously general counsel of Nexant, where she crafted global ethics, anti-corruption, and renewable energy certificate programs and headed legal operations at the energy services and software firm.

She says she’s excited to dive back into the business sector. “I really enjoy being in the trenches with the entrepreneurs and my colleagues and a company, being the legal voice at the table, and helping to figure out how to operationalize legal best practices,” she said.

Rimmler says she was drawn to Sigma7 by the startup’s rapid early success building a book of business.

“It’s not like they’re a bunch of software developers trying to create a product that may or may not work and they don’t have any clients yet,” she said. “They’re getting a running start with all of these industry experts and a whole suite of very well known global clients.”

Dentons, the self-described “world’s largest law firm,” has seen a bevy of departures amid years of missed revenue targets and the ousting of former CEO Mike McNamara in 2021.

The firm also saw a departure from its former London-based deputy general counsel Reshma Raja, who joined UK Reynolds Porter Chamberlain as a partner in July.
