Ex-Bankruptcy Judge’s Recusal Needs New Look, Fifth Circuit Says

A Texas bankruptcy court must reconsider whether an ex-bankruptcy judge who resigned amid an ethics probe last year should have recused himself from a restructuring case, the Fifth Circuit ruled.

The decision Tuesday reopens a piece of litigation that ultimately led to the downfall of former Houston bankruptcy judge David R. Jones, once one of the most prolific judges for large Chapter 11 cases in the country, amid revelations that he concealed a long-term relationship with a local attorney.
