DOJ Hits Back at Rhode Island Judge in Transgender Records Case

The Justice Department denied that its prosecutors withheld or misrepresented information in its pursuit of transgender minors’ hospital records, pushing back on a Rhode Island federal judge’s rebuke.

The Civil Division said in a press release on Wednesday that it had “thoroughly reviewed” allegations from District Judge Mary S. McElroy last month accusing prosecutors of engaging in an “obvious effort to shield” its “investigative tactics” when it sought an order in the reliably conservative Northern District of Texas instructing Rhode Island Hospital to comply with a subpoena for records on gender-affirming care for minors.
