HIRING IN DOJ’s civil rights division — previously in the hands of career staff to avoid politicization — is now consolidated under a handful of supervisors aligned with President Donald Trump, Ben Penn and Suzanne Monyak report.

  • Four attorneys steering current hiring had volunteered to temporarily transfer to the division’s leadership office early in Trump’s second term, current and former colleagues said. Their elevation comes as the division’s anti-discrimination enforcement shifts to conservative priorities, including anti-Christian bias and gun rights.
