Disney Reverses on Pitch to Exclude Shareholder Proposals

Disney is putting to a vote three shareholder proposals it had originally tried to omit from its annual meeting, a glimpse into how companies are treading lightly during their first year without the SEC’s proxy ballot guidance.

Walt Disney Co. had previously asked the Securities and Exchange Commission for permission to exclude proposals for a financial analysis of climate commitments, a report on alleged religious discrimination, and a review of disability inclusion practices. The shareholder bids, Disney told the agency Nov. 4, allegedly made misleading statements, delved into the company’s day-to-day business, or failed to show economic relevance.
