Democrats Press Oz for Transparency on AI Medicare Denials

Democratic lawmakers are requesting that the Trump administration hand over data related to the implementation of a pilot program that uses artificial intelligence to make Medicare coverage decisions.

A coalition of Democratic lawmakers sent a letter to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz on Monday seeking comprehensive data on the efficacy of the agency’s Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction (WISeR) model. The six-year trial uses AI algorithms to determine the medical necessity of select Medicare procedures across Texas, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Ohio, Washington, and Arizona.
