Crowell & Moring Hires Healthcare Practice Head at Moses Singer

Crowell & Moring has hired Linda Malek, chair of healthcare and life sciences group at Moses Singer, as Crowell intensifies its focus on the practice area.

Healthcare partner Jason Johnson and of counsel Blaze Waleski are also leaving Moses Singer to join Crowell, Malek said in an interview. Their first day at their new firm is Tuesday. They are joining Crowell’s healthcare and privacy and cybersecurity groups.

After being at Moses for over two decades, Malek said she felt her expanded practice needed a bigger platform and that she sees “Crowell as a superpower in the regulatory space.”

Crowell has been building up its healthcare practice, with clients including United Healthcare Insurance Co., Humana Inc., and Sentara Healthcare. The firm in November announced it hired Justice Department alum Michael Shaheen after his short stint at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan.

Malek, whose practice spans from healthcare regulation to health equity and data privacy, said she’s excited to work on the sector’s emerging issues and to cross-sell Crowell’s cybersecurity expertise with her clinical research expertise.

The new additions will allow the firm to increase its service-bandwidth to clients, said Crowell healthcare co-chair Troy Barsky. “Linda’s focus on digital health is a natural fit to what we’re already doing,” he said.

Malek, Johnson and Waleski will also feed into the firm’s consulting arm, Crowell Health Solutions, which launched in February 2023.
