Cravath Swaine & Moore Elects Four Lawyers to Partnership

Nov. 16, 2023, 10:30 PM UTC

Cravath Swaine & Moore is promoting four lawyers to its partnership, capping off a year of big hires at the Wall Street firm.

Cole DuMond and Adam Sanchez will become partners in the firm’s corporate department, while Lillian Grossbard and Jesse Weiss will be in the litigation department, Cravath said in a statement. The lawyers officially become partners Jan. 1.

The promotions come at the end of a busy year for the firm. Cravath opened up an office in Washington while hiring former top government officials. They included former FDIC Chair Jelena McWilliams, former SEC Acting Chair Elad Roisman, and former Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen.

Cravath also launched an English law offering in the UK with hires from Shearman & Sterling and Latham & Watkins.

It was also revealed earlier this month that Cravath had quietly created a salaried partner tier back in late 2021 when it moved away from its strict lockstep model, becoming the latest law firm to revamp its partner pay structure to deal with increasingly competitive market for top legal talent.

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, another top Wall Street firm, introduced its nonequity partner tier in 2019. It announced on Nov. 15 that it was promoting 32 partners to its partnership.

Last year, Cravath elevated eight lawyers to its partnership, seven of which were in its corporate practice.
