Renovaro Inc. lost its initial bid to roll back part of its deal for a bogus HIV cure peddled by a Turkish conman later convicted of killing a blackmailer to keep the fraudulent transaction on track.
A Delaware judge threw out the company’s legal claims against Serhat Gumrukcu’s husband and investment affiliate, saying the lawsuit fell short of showing their involvement in his scheme to conceal a life of lies that would have scuttled the deal. The 2018 transaction, valuing the phony intellectual property at more than $400 million, created Nasdaq-listed Enochian Biosciences Inc., which last year became Renovaro.
