- Stone will join CNA starting in June
- She replaces former GC Jose Gonzalez
Stone will oversee legal matters for domestic and international operations as well as regulatory and government affairs, securities law, and company litigation, according to a company statement Monday. She’ll start June 28.
“Susan is eminently skilled,” CNA CEO Dino Robusto said in the statement. Her track record “will ensure that we continue to profitably grow our business with full integrity.”
Chicago-based CNA this month reported a profit of $312 million in the first quarter, compared with a loss of $61 million in the same period last year. The property & casualty segments contributed $253 million to its earnings.
“We believe this favorable market environment will persist throughout the year,” Robusto said in the earnings call.
CNA, like many organizations recently, was hit with a cyber security attack in March that disrupted its network. The company later said operations are in a “fully restored state.”
At Marsh, a New York-based insurance and risk management company, Stone worked for over four years as general counsel. Before Stone’s time with Marsh, she was with Sidley Austin for nearly three decades and was an adjust law school lecturer at DePaul University College of Law, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Marsh’s deputy general counsel and chief compliance officer, Katherine Brennan, will succeed Stone as GC on June 1, according to a Monday statement from Marsh parent company Marsh McLennan.
CNA’s former general counsel, Jose Gonzalez, left the company earlier this year to join New York-based financial services company Equitable Holdings as chief legal officer.
