CBN Hit With Patent Suit Over Driver’s License Security Features

A French supplier of high-security driver’s licenses to US states sued a Canadian competitor, alleging patent infringement.

Thales DIS France SAS accused Canadian Bank Note Co. and CBN Secure Technologies Inc. of infringing US Patent No. 9,242,502 by making and shipping to the US polycarbonate, laser-engraved driver’s licenses and identification cards, in a complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The ‘502 patent is directed to an identification document with security elements that provide improved ways to visually detect forgeries.
