California Extends Provisional Law License Program Through 2025

California is extending its provisional licensing program, which allows certain lawyers to provide legal services before they’ve passed the bar, through 2025 under an order the state’s supreme court approved Friday.

The pandemic-prompted program gave 2020 law school graduates the opportunity to practice after the California Bar exam was delayed. The program was extended last year and set to expire at the end of the month.

The 2020 graduates who aren’t yet licensed have until May 31 to satisfy the requirements, including passing the bar, completing a new attorney training program, passing the Multistate Professional Responsibility exam, submitting all relevant ...
