The Diocese of Buffalo, N.Y., announced a $150 million settlement with more than 900 child sex abuse claimants, but the deal doesn’t yet include insurers.
The deal, which comes five years into the diocese’s bankruptcy, is a step toward a global settlement, diocese attorney Stephen Donato of Bond Schoeneck & King PLLC said during a Tuesday hearing in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of New York. The settlement includes a committee representing abuse claimants, the diocese, and its parishes, he added.
