BGOV Bill Analysis: H.R. 5125, DC Judicial Nominations

The president would possess the sole authority to nominate judges to the District of Columbia courts without input from local officials under H.R. 5125.

The bill would terminate the DC Judicial Nomination Commission, which was established by the 1973 Home Rule Act (Public Law 93-198) to recommend candidates for appointment to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the city’s highest court.
