Apple Would Pay $95 Million in Proposed Siri Privacy Settlement

Plaintiffs in a proposed class action against Apple Inc. alleging privacy violations by its Siri virtual assistant asked a California federal court to approve a $95 million settlement after five years of litigation.

The agreement would resolve allegations that Apple’s voice-assistant Siri was unintentionally activated and obtained their confidential communications and shared them with third parties without consent.

The proposed settlement is the result of “arms-length negotiation” between the parties, who are both “well informed of the strengths and weaknesses” of their positions, the plaintiffs said in a Dec. 31 unopposed motion seeking preliminary approval of the pact in the ...
