Ancestry.com Hires Big-Tech Veteran Derek Smith as Legal Leader

Ancestry.com LLC has named Derek Smith as its new chief legal officer, who comes to the privately-held genealogy company after spending most of his career in the technology sector.

Smith succeeds Gregory Packer, who spent five years as Ancestry’s legal chief, leaving in March to take a similar role at healthcare payments software maker Waystar Holding Corp., which went public a year ago.
