- A&O Shearman to launch Wednesday as combined firm
- Denise Gibson, Dave Lewis named managing partners
More Allen & Overy partners have been appointed to top roles ahead of the firm’s combination with Shearman & Sterling, the firms announced Tuesday.
A&O London banking partner Denise Gibson will serve as the merged firm’s UK managing partner. Dave Lewis, an A&O partner in New York, has been appointed US co-managing partner, to work alongside Shearman & Sterling’s Doreen Lilienfeld.
Gibson is currently co-head of the global leveraged finance group at A&O and has been a partner in the firm’s banking practice since 2013. Lewis has been at the firm for 23 years and served as New York managing partner from 2017 to 2023.
The duo join a new management team across the combined firm, which goes live Wednesday. The firm—A&O Shearman— is set to join Big Law’s behemoths, with roughly 3,900 lawyers and a combined gross revenue of $3.5 billion.
A&O Shearman will be led by senior and managing partners Khalid Garousha and Hervé Ékué, both A&O partners. Adam Hakki, Shearman’s senior partner, will chair the combined firm’s US business, in addition to his role as co-chair of the global Board and Executive Committee.
Several partners have left both firms in the run up to the merger. The departures include Damian Carolan, head of A&O’s UK financial services regulatory practice
