Airbnb Beats Suit From Man Alleging Assault at Rental Property

Airbnb Inc. avoided a lawsuit from a man who alleges he was assaulted at a house rented on the platform, after a judge in San Francisco ruled Wednesday that the company did not owe him a duty of care.

Brian Ramirez sued the company in San Francisco Superior Court, alleging causes of action for premises liability, negligence, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and products liability. Ramirez said he was assaulted in January 2021 at a house rented on Airbnb’s platform.

Judge Ethan P. Schulman dismissed the suit in June with leave to amend, but said the updated complaint still failed ...
