AI Hiring Bias Rules Adopted By California Civil Rights Board

The council of the California Civil Rights Department adopted final regulations Friday to prevent bias in hiring decisions by employers who use artificial intelligence tools.

The regulations did not address major policy questions around the emerging technology, including how much liability AI developers would face for violations, leaving that decision to the state Legislature. Lawmakers are considering comprehensive bills to curb algorithmic discrimination more broadly, not just in hiring.
