Aetna, Lipedema Patients Plan to Settle Liposuction Coverage Row

Aetna Life Insurance Co. plans to settle a class action by patients who say the insurer wrongly refused to cover liposuction as a treatment for their lipedema.

The parties asked Judge William H. Orrick to put the case—which is scheduled to go to trial in August—on hold and schedule a status conference for them to discuss executing a written settlement agreement and seeking court approval for the deal. Their notice, filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, didn’t include details about the terms of the agreement.
