Immigration Enforcement Takes Center Stage in GOP Budget Plan

The Department of Homeland Security would get billions to jail and deport immigrants in a GOP proposal that would shrink funding for other parts of the agency.

House Republicans released the draft fiscal 2026 appropriations bill Sunday, kicking off months of legislative wrangling to fund DHS and other government agencies by the end of September.
