A Florida municipal worker who was fired after posting a meme of George Floyd on his Facebook page advanced his lawsuit when the Eleventh Circuit on Thursday said the manager who fired him isn’t immune from suit.
The employee plausibly alleged a violation of his First Amendment free speech rights when he claimed his employment was terminated because of a post he made to a private social media group commenting on the political climate in the wake of Floyd’s 2020 murder by a Minneapolis police officer, the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit said.
