Pay transparency laws like Colorado’s are becoming more common and expansive, with New York City and Washington state recently passing similar laws.
In general, pay transparency laws require employers to disclose wage information to job applicants in certain situations, and many of these laws wait until later in the recruitment process, such as when an applicant completes an initial interview or receives an offer.
But the laws in New York City and Washington state, as well as the one implemented in Colorado in 2021, empower applicants by requiring wage information to be included in most job postings.
