ANALYSIS: Pixel Privacy Lawsuits Are Up—And Not Just in Big Tech

Lawsuits alleging privacy violations associated with the use of persistent web tracker tools like tracking pixels are on the rise—and they include some perhaps unexpected defendants.

There have been 265 lawsuits filed so far in 2023 that raise various privacy concerns related to the plaintiffs’ use of Meta’s Pixel, Alphabet’s Google Tag Manager, and Adobe’s pixel tracking tools, up 89% from 2022’s 140, according to a Bloomberg Law dockets search.

And while many of these lawsuits name familiar technology companies, this year has continued the pattern of numerous non-tech defendants being pulled into the spotlight, including grocery and pharmacy ...
