ANALYSIS: No Corporate Veil in Suit Against Meta’s Zuckerberg

Meta Platform Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg was sued personally last month by District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine for misrepresentation and failing to protect Facebook users’ personal information.

It’s rare for a founding CEO to be sued by a district attorney in a personal capacity, and this should signal to others that they’re not out of reach.

The May 23 complaint alleges that Zuckerberg, who is chairman, CEO, and co-founder of Facebook parent Meta, violated the District’s Consumer Protection Procedures Act by misrepresenting the protection afforded users’ personal information and permitting third-party access to the data.
