ANALYSIS: New German Competition Law Tests Google’s Data Terms

Germany’s antitrust enforcer is using new amendments to its competition law against Google‘s data practices—which might challenge the backbone of Google’s online dominance.

The Bundeskartellamt announced on Jan. 11 its preliminary decision that Google’s data processing terms are essentially an abuse of its dominant position in multiple digital markets. It’s the latest salvo in a long battle about fair competition and privacy between the European Union (and its member states) and the online giant.
