Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data indicate that legal employment numbers have dipped from 1.93 million in Q4 2022 to 1.82 million in Q1 2023, despite moderate overall job growth in March.
When broken down by job, employment dropped from Q4 2022 to Q1 2023 for lawyers (1.21 million to 1.13 million); paralegals (458,000 to 425,000); and title examiners, abstrators, and searchers (99,000 to 80,000). But employment for legal support workers increased from 76,000 to 95,000.
